Resumen

Thyroid hormones are the metabolic hormones par excellence of the human body, their physiology is well known, as well
as their tissue effects. However, in the critical patients, their physiopathological role is very complex and generates many
discrepancies in their diagnosis and therapeutic approach and even more in determining their role in outcomes such as
severity and mortality. In this chapter we will write about its anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and an evidence-based review
of its behavior in critical pathology.
